Interpore 2019: Short course on Microfluidics in porous media

You are cordially invited to participate in the short course “Microfluidics: Experimental & Numerical Approaches for Multiphase flow and Transport Processes in Porous media”
which is organized in the framework of the 11th International Conference on Porous Media & Annual Meeting (INTERPORE), May 6 – 10, 2019, Valencia, Spain.

This course is organised by Dr. Nikos Karadimitriou (University of Stuttgart, Germany), Dr. Ioannis Zarikos (University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands) and Dr. Andreas Yiotis (National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, Greece) and will cover a wide range of topics related to the experimental and numerical study of multiphase flow and transport processes in porous media by means of state-of-the-art microfluidics and pore-scale modelling approaches.

The course is scheduled for Monday, 6th May 2019, 08:00-11:00 and will cover;

  • Artificial porous media: Advantages and challenges
  • Microscopy techniques (Optical, Fluorescence, Confocal, X-ray micro-Computed Tomography, Thermal)
  • Real time visualization experiments; Pore scale information
  • Basic concepts and principles for the numerical modeling of single and two-phase flows in porous media at the pore and pore network scales
  • Two-phase flow models for pore scale simulations (Level Set, Phase Field & Lattice Boltzmann)
  • Efficient application of single and two-phase flow simulators in 2D and 3D porous structures based on parallel programming and HPC principles
