TransformAr EU Project Raises Climate Change Awareness Among Egaleo School Students
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSRD), the TransformAr EU project has launched an awareness-raising module (AWAR) aimed at increasing climate change awareness among school students in Egaleo.
The initiative, conducted in partnership with the 3rd and 7th Gymnasiums of Egaleo, organized lectures focused on Climate Change and its effects at the Municipality of Egaleo. Over the course of two lecture days, approximately 160 students participated in these informative sessions.
During the lectures, students were educated on the fundamentals of atmospheric physics and global climate, with a specific emphasis on the impact of anthropogenic activities on the increase of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They were also encouraged to share their perspectives on climate change based on their everyday experiences.
In addition to raising awareness, the lectures highlighted the actions of the TransformAr project, including the deployment of smart climate stations (SCS). These stations play a crucial role in monitoring and understanding the microclimate of Egaleo, contributing to the overall principle of Climate Digital Twin.
The success of this initiative has paved the way for its continuation in the other three quarters of the municipality in the coming months, ensuring that more students are equipped with the knowledge and understanding necessary to address the challenges of climate change.
