Dr. Maria Gavrouzou Presents Climate-Proofing Solutions at ENERGY in BUILDINGS 2024

Dr. Maria Gavrouzou from our Climate EREL Lab delivered a thought-provoking presentation at the ENERGY in BUILDINGS 2024 conference, held on November 22-23, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt, Athens, Greece.

This prestigious event, a key gathering of Engineers, Architects, Stakeholders, Academics, and Professionals, has been held annually since 2012 and focuses on advancing the built environment’s sustainability and innovation.

Dr. Gavrouzou’s presentation, titled “Energy Interventions that Contribute to the Climate-Proofing of
Buildings on Multiple Scales
“, explored critical topics such as:

  • Safeguarding the built environment from climate and natural hazards, including heatwaves, heavy precipitation, droughts, earthquakes, wildfires, and storms.
  • Assessing the built environment on building, urban, and territorial scales for resilience and self-sufficiency during disruptive events.
  • Evaluating applied climate-proofing solutions based on their maturity (TRL), efficacy, affordability, implementation restrictions, and contribution to climate mitigation.
  • Discussing future climate change impacts and related risks across European regions to identify optimal interventions.

Short CV:
Dr. Maria Gavrouzou is an Associate Researcher at NCSR Demokritos. She earned her Doctorate (PhD) in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Ioannina in 2023, alongside an MSc in Atmospheric Sciences and Environment (2019) and a BSc in Physics (2017). Currently, she is a member of the Environmental Research Laboratory (EREL) and contributes to the MULTICLIMACT project.
