Climate risks are often assessed at national or regional levels, but local impacts and cross-sectoral challenges require more tailored approaches. Our latest study focuses on the Municipality of Sitia in Crete (Greece), where we engaged the local community in a year-long participatory climate risk assessment and adaptation policy making process.
Key insights:
🔹 Citizen-driven risk assessment through three collaborative workshops
🔹 Stakeholder perceptions on the effectiveness of Crete’s Regional Climate Change Adaptation Plan (RCCAPC)
🔹 Cross-sectoral focus on agriculture, water, biodiversity, and tourism
🔹 Bridging the gap between scientific research, public engagement, and policy implementation
This research highlights the importance of place-based, climate-sensitive policies that reflect local realities and challenges.
